How to make palak and oats khichdi | spinach and oats khichdi recipe | oats recipe for weight loss

Who says healthy recipes aren’t tasty. Oats are in true sense a yes- yes for an unhealthy heart and people often struggle to find a tasty yet healthy recipe with it. Oats are bland in taste but when they are mixed with other ingredients of your choice , they make a perfect meal for anyone who is craving for tasty, yet healthy recipe. The recipe of oats is never boring and monotonous as it can be mixed with any other ingredient. Oats not only helps to reduce cholesterol levels but also helps the body to maintain the right balance of vitamins and minerals.

Masala oats khichdi can be prepared with any ingredient of your choice, but I have added palak as it low in cholesterol and an excellent source of iron. I have also added tomatoes, onions, coriander stems and crumbled panner to give it a nice texture.
Spinach and oats khichdi should be served hot and it can be accompanied with curd . I personally prefers it with a hot cup of tea during my breakfast time.

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp jeera or cumin seeds
  • 2-3 laung or cloves
  • 1/4 tsp hing
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup carrot
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1/3 cup split moong daal or lentils (soaked in water)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped spinach or palak
  • 1/2 tsp haldi or turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
  • salt (to taste)
  • 1 cup plain oats
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh coriander (for garnishing)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions
  1. In a pressure cooker add 1 tsp of desi ghee.
  2. Once the oil is hot, add jeera. After hearing the crackling sound, add hing.
  3. Saute for 20 seconds and add finely chopped onions and grated ginger and green chillies
  4. Once the onions become slightly red, add tomatoes and saute well tell they become soft.
  5. Next add carrots and peas.
  6. Mix well. Then add the split moong daal
  7. Then add haldi, red chilly powder and garam masala powder along with salt.
  8. You can also add palak or spinach puree for the same instead of chopped palak. Saute well for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Now add the oats and mix well.
  10. Next add to it 4 cups of water.
  11. Now cover the pressure cooker with its lid and bring 2-3 whistles on high flame.
  12. Garnish the spinach oats with fresh coriander leaves , chopped onions and lemon juice.
  13. Serve hot accompanied with curd or papad.
